The importance of investigating karstified aquifers lies in their significance as a major source of drinking water. This book describes methods that are basic to all hydrogeological studies, such as hydraulic investigations, hydrochemistry, geophysics, isotope chemistry and modelling, but with the emphasis placed on their application to karst syste Category: Science.   Karst aquifers have complex groundwater flow patterns. In Hungary, Aggtelek is one of the best-studied karst regions. Research started in the early ’s to study the surface and subsurface hydrology of the region. Data collected included hydro-meteorological measurements, surface flow experiments and analyses, direct and indirect determination of karst .

Almost a half of the Republic of Ireland is underlain by Carboniferous limestone, most of which is sufficiently pure to be karstified. Upland outcrops of limestone are largely confined to plateaux in the west and NW such as the Burren but the great majority of the limestone underlies the undulating lowland of central Ireland, which only locally exceeds m in elevation.   The field of groundwater hydrology and the discipline of hydrogeology have attracted a lot of attention during the past few decades. This is mainly because of the increasing need for high quality water, especially groundwater. This book, written by 15 scientists from 6 countries, clearly demonstrates the extensive range of issues that are dealt with in the field of hydrogeology. Karst.

Karst Water Resources (Proceedings of the Ankara - Antalya Symposium, July ). lAHSPubl. no. HYDROGEOLOGICAL AND ENGINEERING GEOLOGICAL PROBLEMS OF HYDROTECHNICAL CONSTRUCTIONS IN KARST Petar Milanovic The Karst Water Research Institute, Trebinje, Yugoslavia Introduction. Most standard textbooks on hydrogeology make little mention of the peculiarities of karst groundwater systems in terms of their behaviour and the methods most appropriate to their investigation.€This is the first book€describing methods of groundwater investigation appropriate to karstic systems and€will€be useful to practising hydrogeologists with no special training in karst .

Ireland is unusual in that more than 75% of its karst is lowland (i.e. less than m above sea level) in comparison to the remainder of Europe where most karst terrain is mountain or plateau ().Hence, a distinctive feature of such lowland karst is the considerable degree of interaction between surface and groundwater, whereby water is exchanged between.
